About
About
Dutch born artist, Paul Jacobsen Jensen is a classically, European trained Goldsmith & designer. With more than 25 years experience in his trade, Paul has travelled the world developing his skills in gold & silver smithing, metal forging, stone setting, jewellery design, hand engraving & repairs. Always acquiring new skills & interesting tools, Paul continues to seek knowledge of age old methods while applying them to his own ideas both modern & classical.
After working in the aerospace industry for over a decade, Paul decided to change course & sought a formal metal art education in Florence, Italy. There he began studies in Florentine gold smithing & trained with master craftsmen of several specialties. Paul then continued further training in the Netherlands, Germany & Canada while offering services to a variety of Master Goldsmiths worldwide.
Paul has now opened a Gulf Island Studio where he offers his jewellery & a diverse range of skills to his Salt Spring Island, Victoria and Vancouver clientele. Always busy at his bench producing new pieces, restoring antiques & pursuing the creation of a timeless body of work. His pieces can be found in private collections around the world & annually in gallery exhibitions.
Katrina Jacobsen Jensen is a multi disciplinary artist with a varied artistic background. With design, art gallery curation, interior staging, writing, performance, modelling and film work in her repertoire, she oversees the details of our studio with a critical eye & personal aesthetic in hopes of exceeding our clients expectations. Imaging, communications & the shops aesthetic are largely managed by Kat & together we are honoured to give our full attention to your requests so the experience of receiving a piece of our work is a genuine & positive memory.
The studio contains a variety of tools both antique and modern. The primary focus of our workshop is to produce pieces in the most traditional methods possible with the intention of creating works that last for generations. This means that most pieces that are created here are forged by hand resulting in unmatched quality and integrity (forged metal of all types are stronger due to a finer grain structure conforming to the shape of the item). We use the modern aids of a binocular microscope and pneumatic engraver for stone setting, oxygen torch and vintage watchmakers lathe.
Metals used are typically 18-22k yellow or rose gold, 18k palladium-white gold, platinum, sterling silver and fine silver (999).
We search for one of a kind gemstones & diamonds of fine quality but will always work together with our clients to find solutions for all budgets. The atmosphere here is relaxed and comfortable and your ideas are always welcomed.
*This is a space we hope you feel comfortable to ask questions and learn in. There is never an obligation or expectation of purchase. We have so enjoyed learning our trade over these many years of practice and are always happy to share the knowledge we’ve obtained and are still honing.
